Whirlwind Ecommerce helped Revgear migrate from BigCommerce and MOM to Shopify. Find out how our ecommerce agency increased conversion rates after launch.
The Situation
Revgear has spent 30 years earning trust inside gyms and fight camps with pro gear made for pro fighters. Coaches recommend Revgear’s fighting and MMA gear, equipment, and apparel to students, while pro athletes wear it in competition.
Revgear’s reputation has been hard-earned.
But the ecommerce stack behind it wasn't keeping up.
Revgear was running on three disconnected systems: a BigCommerce site for retail customers, a separate BigCommerce site for wholesale, and Mail Order Manager (MOM) handling a portion of orders on its own.
Revgear heard that Whirlwind Ecommerce was a pro when it came to migrating from BigCommerce to Shopify, and, after a consultation, felt confident that our team should be in their corner.
What We Did
Unified the backend. Whirlwind consolidated Revgear's retail storefront, B2B wholesale ordering, CSR-managed phone and email orders, and marketplace listings onto a single Shopify Plus platform, making it easier to manage inventory in one place.
Rebuilt the message around what actually sells Revgear. Thirty years of gear tested by professional fighters is a stronger story than any single founder narrative, so that's where the content strategy put the weight: durability, safety, and the coaches and gyms who put their own names behind the brand. We identified key buyer personas and built a content strategy that positions Revgear’s reputation for providing Pro Gear for Pro Fighters for athletes at every level of their journey.
Built conversion into the experience. Conversion rate optimization should never be an afterthought. Retail shoppers and wholesale buyers have different questions before they'll trust a product enough to buy it. CRO work ran through both paths: clearer product information so a shopper can tell one glove from another at a glance, and a wholesale ordering experience that doesn't make a gym owner work for a bulk order.
Updated the visual branding. Revgear needed to stand apart from its competitors visually, a difficult task in an industry where most product photos and sites look indistinguishable from one another. Our design strategist updated the branding elements and refreshed the brand’s visual elements to make sure a 30-year-old brand was speaking to a modern-day audience.
The Result
A 33% increase in conversion rate following launch.
Revgear left Whirlwind a 5-star review on the Shopify Partner Directory:
"We had a particularly difficult migration that included two different legacy software and B2B and B2C issues. The experience of Whirlwind was particularly helpful and we probably could not have pulled off the migration without them. Everything came in on budget and on schedule and we are very appreciative of their help and guidance."
Why It Worked
Migrations get judged on whether the data moved without breaking anything. That's the floor, not the win.
For Revgear, the data migration was simply a starting point.
The harder problem was making three separate customer experiences, retail, wholesale, and phone order, feel like one brand that's been doing this for three decades.
Consolidating the platform made that possible. The content and CRO work is what made it show up in the numbers. Whirlwind's full-service migration approach made sure that Revgear wasn't simply moving data; they were taking the opportunity to fix what was broken, to think about the needs of today's shoppers, and to show up on the mat ready to win.
